Nepal Medical Council (NMC) administers the NMCLE licensing exam for MBBS graduates seeking registration as medical doctors. The examination comprises 130 multiple-choice questions (one mark each) and 10 case-study questions (five marks each), totalling 180 marks, with a three-hour duration and a pass mark of 90 (50%). There is no negative marking. Previously, the licensing exam was conducted by Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine; it is now administered directly by the NMC as the Nepal Medical Council Licensing Examination (NMCLE). The NMC notes that the question distribution is a guide and can vary. Successful candidates may register with the NMC and practise as licensed medical doctors in Nepal.
